Don't you just love those soft pretzels that are ubiquitous in Germany? But hard to find in America? You can find them in certain large malls - my favorite is dipped in butter and coated with cinnamon sugar. This recipe goes well with brown mustard and complements beer too. I can give you the trick to making pretzels, but I still can't figure out how to roll them into that unique pretzel shape.
Ingredients 1 recipe bread dough (frozen dough is fine) 1/4 cup baking soda 1 pt water kosher salt Procedure Preheat oven to 350F. Cut dough into long strips, roll into pretzel shape. (I think they have to raise for a while here.) Add soda to water, bring to boil. Dip pretzel in boiling soda water until it floats. Remove to baking sheet, sprinkle with salt. Bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes. Cool before removing. (is this right?)
